Burn Permit Instructions
Burn permits for residents outside of city limits in Bonner County and Kootenai County may be obtained through the Idaho Department of Lands.
Go to the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) burn permit website at: burnpermits.idaho.gov
Click on “New Permit.”
Enter your address, click “Find.”
If the correct location shows up on the map, click on “Place Burn Site Here.”
Complete the burn site information, click “Save Burn Site.”
If the information is correct, click “Next.”
Select the burn type from the pull-down menu (only permitted burn types will be displayed), then click “Next.”
If you already have an IDL account, login to your account. If you do not have an account, click “I Don’t Have an Account.”
Complete the required information. Here you can also create an account if you would like to save your contact information and burn permit history for renewal purposes. When done, click “Submit Permit.”
Click on “HTML” or “PDF” to view your permit.
Print your permit. Permit must be onsite during burning.
If you are burning slash, please notify the Spirit Lake Fire District Administrative Office at (208) 623-5800 to let us know the location and date of the burn, how many piles you will be lighting, and a contact name and phone number.
Please read and adhere to the district’s burn regulations which are required to be onsite during any burning year-round.
